Media Arabic Study Guides

The Media Arabic study guides are designed for advanced students of Arabic. The guides assume students have completed at least the equivalent of Al-Kitaab Book Two from the Georgetown University Press Arabic Series. There are two sets of study guides. The two sets may be used independently of one another.

Preparation of the course plans and supplementary materials is made possible by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The project aims to facilitate the study of Arabic for students in colleges, universities, and secondary schools that cannot afford full-time Arabic instructors or are located in rural areas where it is difficult to find qualified or experienced faculty. Any institution, instructor, or independent study student is welcome to use the guides. They are freely available and no special permission is required as long as no one is required to pay for use of the material.

Study Guides Based on Media Arabic: A Coursebook for Reading Arabic News

The first study guide set is based on the textbook Media Arabic: A Coursebook for Reading Arabic News published by The American University in Cairo Press. These guides also use The Top 1,000 Words for Understanding Media Arabic published by Georgetown and selections from GLOSS: The Global Language Online Support System. There are twenty study guides designed to be used in either a one-semester full course or in two half courses spread over two semesters.
