Engaging with Fellow Exchange Students (Intermediate)

Practice on Your Own

Imagine you have traveled to a country where the language is spoken on a study abroad program. There are a few other students in the same group from different colleges. Engage in a conversation with the other students.

  • Make a list of questions that you can ask the other students, such as: Which college do you go to? What year are you in? Do you like your school and why? What is your major? Where did you learn this language? etc.
  • You should practice asking these questions and also practice answering them.
  • Write a dialogue where you have this kind of conversation. Also practice the conversation out loud.

Practice in Conversation Session

  • Be prepared to tell your conversation partner and classmates about your school, country, etc. You can ask your conversation partner if you have any questions regarding how to ask or say certain things.
  • Do a role play where your conversation partner will ask you questions and you will answer accordingly.
  • Do another role play where your conversation partner and classmates will answer your questions. Your conversation partner will play the role of a student from a different college who is on the same study abroad program.
  • Engage in a group discussion where everyone can talk about the similarities and differences in the host institution and schools back home.
