Portuguese in Angola
Asking for Directions
There are no tourist information centers and maps are not easily accessible within the country. Maps of Angola have usually been brought into the country by foreigners. It is acceptable and actually necessary to ask strangers for directions, and generally, one will get help.
An important part of any address is the name of the section of the city or "quarter." Since many of the street signs left from the Portuguese have been destroyed, not all streets are marked. People rely heavily on the name of the quarter and additional landmarks when giving directions.
