Moving into a New Dorm (Novice)

Practice on Your Own

• Think about people you met on your first day at university. When moving into your dormitory, whom did you meet?
• Create a character to be your new roommate. Imagine meeting them for the first time. Speak both parts out loud.
  • How do you introduce yourself?
  • What questions do you ask them? For example:
    • Name
    • Age
    • Where he/she is from
    • Nationality
    • Family
• Then imagine meeting your next door neighbor in the dorm.

Practice in Conversation Session

• Be prepared to role play introducing yourself to other people in your dorm lounge on the first evening after you have moved in. There will be many people living on each floor. How would you ask and answer questions about where you and others from? How would you make appropriate small talk about where everyone is from?
  • Depending on how many people are in the conversation section, each person may need to play multiple roles.
