The Best Season to Visit (Intermediate)
Practice on Your Own
Imagine you want to visit a friend in a country where the language is spoken. You want to ask your friend about the different seasons of the year and the best time to make your trip. You need to plan ahead for the types of clothing, shoes and other accessories you will need according to the season there.
- Prepare to ask your friend about the different seasons of the year and the characteristics of each season.
- Make a list of the types of clothing and shoes you may need to bring with you in the target language.
- Prepare to find out from your friend which of these things are available in the country so that you don’t carry too much luggage with you.
- Prepare to ask your friend about the activities that people do during the different seasons.
Practice in Conversation Session
- Be prepared to describe the seasons of the year to your conversation partner in the language you are learning. Your conversation partner may follow up with questions about what people do during the different seasons.
- Be prepared to role play situations in which your conversation partner plays the role of the friend in the country you will be visiting and you interact with your friend. Greet each other in a manner that is culturally appropriate, given that you and your friend are of the same age. Ask your friend about the different seasons. Then tell your friend when you have decided to visit and ask about what you need to bring, what is available there and the activities the two of you will do.
- You may follow up this activity with other weather‐related conversations. For example, you might talk about severe weather with your conversation partner and fellow students.
