Getting Around Town (Novice-Intermediate)
Practice on Your Own
Imagine you are staying at a hostel in a country where the language is spoken. You are planning to visit some different places in the city where you are staying.
- Make a list of all the means of local transportation.
- Decide what places you will visit. (You can do some research online about different attractions and their locations within the city.)
- Figure out what type of transportation you will need to get to each place.
- Think about how you will pay the fare. Are there fixed prices, or will you need to bargain? Do you need exact change?
Practice in Conversation Session
- Be prepared to tell your conversation partner and classmates the names of different means of transportation.
- Check with your conversation partner if you are using the right means of transportation to go to the various places.
- Be prepared to do a role play where you will be a passenger and your conversation partner will play the role of a bus driver, taxi driver, or the driver of any other means of transportation.
- If appropriate, do a role play where you have to bargain about the fare that you are going to pay.
