Prices and Bargaining (Novice)
Practice on Your Own
Imagine you are planning to go on a study abroad program to a country where the language is spoken.
- Make a list of the bills and coins that are used in that country and read it out loud to practice.
- Try to find out how people count money in the country/ies where the language is spoken.
- Practice saying prices out loud.
- Work on how prices are paid in the country/ies where the language is spoken. Are there fixed prices or should you try to bargain?
Practice in Conversation Session
- Be prepared to say prices out loud to your conversation partner and classmates.
- Practice saying random prices to others, and others will say random prices to you. See if others understand you and if you understand others.
- Ask your conversation partner how things are bought in the country/ies where the language is spoken and what the prices are generally like for items of everyday use.
- Do a role play with your conversation partner and classmates where you buy something, including asking for the price. Try to bargain the price down if that is appropriate in the situation you are role playing.
