Reporting an Accident (Novice-Intermediate)
Practice on Your Own
Imagine you are in a country where the language is spoken and there is a traffic accident. You have to call the police, and if the accident is severe, you will need an ambulance as well.
- Practice saying phone numbers and addresses in the target language. (In order to do this, you will need to practice numbers.)
- Write a dialogue imagining this situation where you have to call the police and an ambulance. When you call the emergency number(s), you will have to explain the situation to the person who answers your call.
- Is there a single emergency number that you can call (like 911), or do you have to make separate calls for the police and ambulance? If you are not sure, look it up online or ask your conversation partner.
Practice in Conversation Session
- Be prepared to say phone numbers and addresses in the language you are learning.
- Do a role play where there is a traffic accident and you have to call for the police and an ambulance. Your role play partner will play the role of the police officer or emergency dispatcher.
- Do another role play where your conversation partner or a classmate will call the emergency number(s) and you will answer the call and proceed accordingly.
