Explaining Camp Rules (Intermediate)
Practice on Your Own
Imagine you are working as a camp counselor in a country where the language is spoken. You need to explain the camp rules to the campers in your group.
- Practice saying words like camp, morning, afternoon, evening, night, breakfast, lunch, dinner, different physical and social activities, etc.
- Think about how you would explain different rules to the campers, such as:
- The times they are expected to wake up, eat meals, and go to bed
- Expectations for participation in different activities (what is required, what is optional)
- When they can call their parents
- Places they should not go without asking permission
- When they can talk with their friends and when they need to be quiet Practice explaining these types of rules.
Practice in Conversation Session
- Be prepared to tell your conversation partner the vocabulary that you have prepared related to camps.
- Be prepared to role play being a camp counselor. Your conversation partner and fellow students will play the role of the youth attending the camp. Explain the camp rules to the campers, and answer any questions they may have.
- Rotate roles so that each student gets a chance to play the camp counselor.
- Have a follow‐up conversation with your conversation partner and fellow students. Have you ever attended a camp or worked as a counselor? Do you like working with youth? Do you have special interests such as soccer, swimming, orchestra, dance, etc.?
