Local Transportation
Buses are known for being clean and inexpensive, and the routes extend to all parts of the cities. The drawback, however, is that scheduling can be somewhat inconsistent, and commuters cannot ever be entirely sure when the next bus will arrive. The rule is that if one is pressed for time, a taxicab is the first choice. Bus passes are for sale in kiosks or stationary stores, whereas single tickets are for sale on the bus and will be stamped with the time. Whether or not individual tickets can be used to transfer depends on the city.
The cities of Barcelona and Madrid each have extensive and modern subway systems where one can purchase tickets in the subway station. Bicycles are used by many and can be rented inexpensively.
