Banks and Money
The Slovak currency is the Slovak Crown. Tourist exchange offices as well as post offices offer money exchange services; however, one needs a passport for this transaction. A passport is also required from a foreigner to open a bank account, a process which is quick and easy. Since personal checks and credit cards are not used in Slovakia, debit cards are the only other means of payment besides cash.
Banks are open between 8:00-9:00 a.m. to 3:00-6:00 p.m. depending on the day. Some banks are open on Saturdays until 12:00 p.m.. One can find ATMs in front of each bank but nowhere else.
