In Slovakia, the 24-hour clock is used only in formal situations; otherwise the 12-hour clock is used.

Offices and schools open at 8:00 a.m. and the regular workday ends between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Lunch is from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. and dinner between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Bakeries are open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; convenience stores are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and are closed on Sundays. Supermarkets are open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; shops open aat some point between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and close between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; banks are open between 8:00 a.m. to either 3:00 or 6:00 p.m., depending on the bank and the day.

Punctuality is relatively important in Slovakia, even in social situations. Guests are expected to arrive at the designated time. A delay of up to one half-hour is allowed.
