Asking for Directions

A sign for a historical center

It is acceptable to ask pedestrians, drivers, or small shop owners for directions. Most people will be helpful or even overly helpful in offering to take a tourist to their destination. If that is worrisome, one can politely decline the offer. Cities are clearly marked with street and other signs, and it should be easy to find one’s way. Every city with tourist attractions will have a tourist agency that sells maps and provides information for free.

Slovakia uses the European metric system. When travelling, one should remember that 1 kilometer is about 0.70 mile, and 1 meter is about 3 feet.
