Basic Communications in Serbia

Using the Telephone

A red and silver public telephone

Any residential telephone in Serbia automatically includes long-distance service provided nationally through the Postal Service. Long distance and international telephone calls can also be made on phones installed at the post office. Some newspaper stands offer the use of a telephone where, for a small fee, local calls can be made. Phone booths, which require phone cards rather than coins, are plentiful and easily found. The use of cell phones continues to increase, particularly among young people. Serbians find that operating a cell phone with a phone card tends to be more economical than having a monthly account.
