Banks and Money
Banks are easy to find, and where there is a bank, there is usually an ATM. However, there are rarely freestanding ATMs, since the computer systems are not extensive enough to support them at a distance from the banks. One needs to be cautious withdrawing money publicly from ATMs; some recommend that it is safer to get one’s cash or to change money outside of the city where there is less chance of theft.
Money can be changed at exchange bureaus or at the banks. The rates of exchange are often more advantageous at small, local banks. Since counterfeiting is a common crime in Senegal, one should not be surprised that banks have small devices to check the currency.
