Greetings

Two people shaking hands

Greetings are intended to show respect in the Romanian culture. "Good morning" is used until noon, "good day" until sunset after which "good evening" is appropriate. "Good night" is used when leaving at the end of an evening. When exchanging greetings among friends and acquaintances, members of either party who haven't met must be introduced. Always use the formal address when speaking with adults or strangers unless invited to use the informal, which is normally used only among family and close friends.
