Transportation in Nicaragua

Airport

At the time of this writing, the principle international airport in Nicaragua is under construction to expand its size and improve its overall facilities. As it is, the airport is relatively small. Signs are mostly in Spanish, although English is usually spoken by airline employees. A passenger must board a shuttle to get to the plane on the runways. Upon disembarking from a plane in Nicaragua, a traveler may find a waiting room crowded with exuberant and demonstrative Nicaraguans waiting for families and friends.

Parking is made convenient by the large airport parking lot. It is easiest and relatively inexpensive to travel to the airport by taxi, although price should be negotiated in advance. Buses are inexpensive but not always safe; therefore, taxis are usually recommended for tourists.
