Asking for Directions

One can always ask directions of strangers in Nicaragua. Usually, a resident will give directions patiently until they are understood. There are some tourist centers for general tourist information, and maps are available in the malls.

It is important to know that each neighborhood has a name, and while streets are not marked, the buildings on each street are inscribed with number and street name. When giving directions, often a Nicaraguan will use landmarks. When looking for a particular place in a neighborhood, the traveler is advised to ask passersby and to use the name of the family and the number of the house.
