Telling Time

A person asking another person for the time

In Kenya, time is measured by the 12-hour clock. There are not many clocks in public places; however, when one needs to ask the time, it is considered acceptable to ask a passerby. Some people in the countryside rely on the sun and on the crow of the rooster to judge the time.

When it comes to social gatherings, Kenyans are relaxed about time. When meeting a group of friends, one can be up to 30 minutes late without being considered rude. However, when meeting a single friend, one would make an effort to be on time, and for a business appointment, one is expected to be punctual.
