Laundry
In Kenya, laundry is generally done at home by either a househelper or the mother, often with assistance from the children. Laundry is generally hand washed and hung in the sun to dry, although some upper and middle class households in the city and major towns own washing machines. Although there are no laundromats in the cities, there are many dry cleaners. Charges for drycleaning vary depending upon the texture and quantity of the clothing. Laundry services are also available at the larger hotels.
In the countryside, access to dry cleaners is a problem. In some remote parts of the country, this service is not available at all. Some do their laundry in the rivers, especially in areas where water is not easily available. This minimizes having to walk long distances to collect and carry water back to one's home.
