Taking a Taxi
One can signal for a taxi by putting an arm straight out or calling "taxi." Some whistle loudly to get a driver's attention. It is possible to telephone for a taxi, but the driver will start the meter as he drives to the passenger's location, thus increasing the cost of the ride. After getting in to the cab, one should always locate the meter, make certain the driver starts the meter at zero, and check that the meter functions correctly throughout the trip. There are usually set prices for trips to and from the airport. A tip is not necessarily expected but will certainly be appreciated. At the very least, one should round off the price to the nearest 5 piasters. Fares will be higher for trips made late at night.
