Banks and Money

A person at an ATM

The main unit of currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JD). A dinar is divided into 100 piasters. The most common coin denominations are: 50, 25, 10, 5, 2 ½, 1 and ½ piasters. The most common bill denominations are: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 dinars (JD).

ATMs are easy to find and international withdrawals aren't usually a problem. There are also special shops that exchange money. It is wise to inquire about rates at several places since the rates may vary significantly. Money exchange procedures are informal, with no forms required or receipts provided. One can also exchange money at a bank; however, the procedures are more complex.
