Airports
Italy has numerous large international airports replete with shops, money changing bureaus, ATMs, restaurants, car rental agencies, and hotel accommodation services. Airports are easily accessible by taxi, bus or private car, and when one is a guest at a large hotel, free shuttle service is provided to and from the airport. There is an inexpensive train that runs directly from the main Rome train station (Termini) to Fiumicino, the international airport slightly outside the city. It is relatively easy for the American traveler since English is widely spoken at the international airports. Airport signs are in Italian (with some English), while announcements are made in Italian, English and German. These three languages are also spoken at the information desks.
There is a high level of military security at all of Italy's international airports, so visitors should not be alarmed at the sight of armed guards.
