Transportation in Indonesia

At the Airport

A sign for the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta handles international flights and connecting flights within the country. Domestic flights go in and out of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. International passengers arriving in Jakarta will find signs in both Indonesian and English. Arriving passengers will encounter common airport procedures, first baggage claim, then the passport check, then entry into the area where one can meet people and find public transportation. Departing passengers will find that only ticketed passengers are allowed into the check-in area and everyone entering check-in first goes through a security check.
A special airport bus runs between the airport and the train station in the center of Jakarta. Have cash ready to pay the driver on the bus. For a more expensive ride, taxis are available. Taxis typically do not use their meters when picking people up from the airport (or train station). The passenger must ask the price ahead of time and should be prepared to bargain if the price is too high.
