Using a Pay Phone

Two pay phone booths next to each other outside

One first picks up the receiver and then inserts either a coin or pre-purchased phone card. Note that phones will be designed to take either a coin or a card, not both. Change is not returned at the end of a coin-operated call, so it is important to put in approximately the right amount. If a phone card is used, it must remain in the slot for the duration of the call. Basic instructions about phone usage, costs, and emergency numbers are posted inside the phone booths.
