Visiting a Home

When invited to a private home, keep in mind that there is a 15-minute grace period on either side of the time set for arrival. If a host expects a guest at around 7:00 p.m., the guest could safely arrive from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. Arriving any earlier or later than this time would be considered rude. One should always call when delayed.

When entering a home, visitors should remove their shoes, or at least ask their host whether it is necessary. One should never simply walk in wearing shoes. Slippers will usually be provided, and there will be a place to leave shoes inside the front door. School children wear slippers even in school and leave their shoes outside.
