On Bulgarian calendars the first day of the week is Monday. National holidays are marked with red numbers. Important holidays are March 3rd, Liberation Day (liberation from Turkey in 1878); September 6th, the day when the southern and northern parts of Bulgaria were united; November 1st, called "Day of the National Enlighteners;" and May 24th, the "Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius," in honor of creators of the Bulgarian alphabet.
