Transportation in Bangladesh

Travel Around the Country

There is adequate bus service traveling between cities in Bangladesh as well as a bus line that runs between both the capital and the port city to Calcutta. One should first call the bus service to reserve a ticket. The ticket should then be picked up at the bureau before heading to the port where buses leave. Buses are air-conditioned and tend to have clean facilities. Although vendors convene outside terminals, it is highly recommended that a traveler bring food or eat at the planned stops during the journey.

Trains also run between cities. To travel to the farther reaches of the country, one can use either train or bus. For these trips, the train is preferable to the bus for comfort and safety. It is also possible to rent a car. Inexperienced visitors are advised against going to remote points of the country unaccompanied by a resident of Bangladesh.
