Cars and Driving

A stop sign

Rental cars are available but not the norm in Turkey since public transportation is so affordable and widespread. If one does have access to a car, one will not encounter difficulties parking. Most lots are free and the overcrowded parking conditions found in other European cities are visible only in certain business centers in the larger cities. If it is necessary to pay, there are generally meters which dispense tickets to be placed on the front windshield. These dispensers take both paper money and coins but not credit cards. The instructions are printed on the meters and their accompanying illustrations are very easy to follow. In some private or municipal parking lots, valet parking is the only choice available.
