Swahili in Kenya

Airports

There are two international airports in Kenya--Nairobi and Mombasa. In addition there are numerous airports that handle domestic traffic only. The international airports are modern and convenient. English is freely spoken, and there is an English version of most airport signs. It is easy to get to the airports given that taxis are decently priced, buses run often, and car rental agencies are generally open twenty-four hours a day. Both international and domestic hotels have counters at the airports where one can make hotel reservations and arrange for free transportation into town.

One finds the usual amenities such as restaurants, souvenir shops, and agencies where money can be changed. It is useful to know that Kenyan airports require a greater than usual amount of time due, in part, to visa-related paperwork for all international travelers.

To get the best service from airport and hotel porters, one should offer a tip in advance.
