Swahili in Kenya

At the Post Office

A mail box

In the cities, there is usually one main post office and many branches. Recently, branches of the post office have also been introduced in the suburbs. There is usually one small post office in each of the small towns and villages. Stamps are sold only at the post office and are of different varieties. There is a standard charge for both regular and international mail. However an extra fee is charged depending on weight. Unlike many countries, in Kenya mail is exclusively picked up at the post office – it is never delivered. Notifications of special deliveries are left in the receiver’s mailbox and the items themselves are held at the main desk of the post office.
