Travel Around the Country

Two travelers walking up to the front entrance of a bus station

There are a variety of ways for visitors to travel around the country. Buses go everywhere, are inexpensive, and relatively safe in the daytime. Overnight bus rides should be avoided because in recent years robbers have taken to blocking roads in order to rob the buses. It is often possible to negotiate with taxi drivers for day trips out of the city. There are no passenger trains, but flying has become a popular and only moderately expensive way of traveling within the country. In Quito, one finds many advertisements for 3-day, 3-night tour excursions to most popular destinations.
