Taxi Service

A black and yellow taxi

The most important thing to know about taxicabs in Argentina is that solo or unregistered cabs can be the source of great danger. There is a high incidence of theft and even personal injury suffered by customers of criminally operated solo cabs. One should NEVER hire a cab that is not employed by a certified, recognizable taxicab company. These cabs can be recognized by the uniformity of the car colors and advertising. If one is in doubt, one can simply ask any Argentine on the street. It is possible to hire a cab by telephoning the taxi company directly. Registered cabs also circulate and can be hailed.

Although cabs are metered, to avoid an unfairly long route or inflated fare, one should get an estimate from the driver before leaving. It is always wise to negotiate first to avoid confusion at the end of the ride.
