The Internet

A person talking on a cell phone

Internet use is widespread throughout Japan. Almost everyone who works in an office or attends university will have easy access to the Internet. Older people or women who do not work outside the home are the only people who are unlikely to have ready access to the Internet or to an e-mail account. Many people own tiny cellular phones from which one can access the Internet for news, weather reports, and local entertainment information. Although Internet cafes exist, they are not widely used, since most people have access through work or school.
