Riding a Tram

A tall, white sign providing tram information

Trams provide local transportation in the larger Croatian cities. Main tram stations will have signs indicating tram routes. Tram routes are indentified with a number and their final destination. Smaller tram stops have only signs indicating a stop without specific route information. Since it can be highly inconvenient to buy a ticket from the tram driver, it is best to buy tickets at newspaper kiosks near the larger stations that sell tickets for single rides, blocks of ten tickets, and weekly passes. After getting on the tram, a passenger must validate the ticket using one of the red validating machines. Officials come through regularly to check for validated tickets. If you haven't validated your ticket you will be charged a fine plus the price of the ticket.
