Taking a Taxi

A yellow taxi parked alongside the street

Taxis are plentiful in Bulgaria and can be identified by their yellow color and recognizable "taxi" sign. All cabs have meters that are supposed to be used for the fare. It is best, however, to negotiate the price before getting in and to act knowledgeable even with cabs that are metered. There should always be a price list on the front window. There is should be no extra charge for luggage or for extra passengers; however, it can be especially expensive to go to the train station or to the airport. One can call the cab company to arrange pickup; however, this service is slightly more expensive than going to a taxi stand. When traveling after midnight, one should travel by cab.
