Uzbek is a part of the Turkic language family and is spoken in Uzbekistan as well as in parts of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and China. Uzbek has been influenced by Persian and Arabic and lacks the vowel harmony of most other Turkic languages. It has been written in several different scripts, but since 1995 has used the Latin alphabet.
