Turkmen people have unique rituals around the wedding ceremonies. Today some traditions are kept and some are no longer practiced, depending on the family. However, the traditions and rituals are well known and hold an exotic charm for foreigners. Above, the wedding party of an American couple that got married in the ruins of the Zoriastrian temple.
One can rent traditional wedding clothing for both a bride and groom to experience the authentic rituals of a Turkmen wedding ceremony. Head decorations for the bride are made out of silver and usually weigh about 7-10 kg (about 15-20 pounds).
