Turkmenistan is part of the region known as Central Asia. Once under Russia's control and part of the Soviet Union, the Central Asian countries of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan, Kazakhstan, and Tadjikistan are now independent and sovereign nations, each with their own unique culture and language.
On the left is the Arch of Neutrality with a full size figure of President Niyazov on top. The statue is designed to rotate so that it is always facing the sun. Above, on the right is the Turkmen flag.
