Urdu in Pakistan

Time

Both social and business appointments tend to run on a fairly loose schedule. Never arrive earlier than the appointed time. Arriving half an hour or more late is not unusual. However, in situations where politeness matters it is better to arrive more or less on time than to be the last arrival. If invited for a meal, do not arrive early (which would be perceived as "greedy" ), but also don't arrive too late and delay the meal.
Note that Urdu has standard terms for half, quarter, and three-quarters of an hour. However, there are also special terms for one and one-half and for two and one-half. These terms are used to indicate 1:30 and 2:30, as well as for other measurements such as one and one-half liters.
