The main unit of currency in Thailand is the baht. 1 baht is divided into 100 stang. Coins come in denominations of 50 stang, 1 baht, 5 baht, and 10 baht. Bills come in denominations of 10 baht, 20 bhat, 50 baht, 100 baht, 500 baht, 1000 baht and above.
ATM machines are common and easy to find. For money exchange go to large banks in the cities. Small local banks may not handle money exchange. There is no fee for money exchange. The fee is built into the exchange rate. People pay cash in markets and most everyday purchases, although quite a few stores accept credit cards. Look for a sign on the door.
