There are separate phone numbers for ambulance, police and fire departments. These numbers are posted in all telephone booths, listed in telephone books, and noted in the daily newspaper.In an medical emergency, foreigners should go to the emergency room of the local hospital.

In Belgrade, there are several large health complexes where treatment for all forms of disease takes place. In the suburbs, health centers predominantly diagnose health problems then refer patients to the larger complexes for treatment.
One generally pays a modest fee for a doctor’s appointment. Prescription medicines are also fairly inexpensive. However, when the generic brand is not available, one can expect the imported equivalent to cost more.
