Gelato
Enjoying a gelato is one of the great pleasures of Italian life. Gelato is Italian ice cream that comes in a variety of creamy, nut or fresh fruit flavors. It is sold both inside cafes or in gelaterie , small independent shops where customers can sit down. There are very fancy shops where one can have gelato served in special china cups instead of the usual plastic. This is a pleasure reserved for special occasions. Generally, gelato stands and shops open late morning and stay open until midnight. Gelato is a seasonal product, usually sold from March through November, when the shops close until spring.
