Banks and Money Exchange

Although credit cards are gaining popularity, the primary means of purchasing in Hungary is still cash. The Hungarian monetary unit is the "forint" (in quantities of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, etc) and it is made up of 100 "fillér". Cash is available at ATMs throughout cities, at banks and currency exchanges downtown, at the airport, the main train station, and select travel agencies. Banks and currency exchanges will require a passport.
