Pharmacies

A large yellow and red sign advertising a pharmacy

Pharmacies (chemists) are quite common although finding an 24-hour pharmacy may be a bit of a challenge. If an emergency arises, a hospital would have a 24-hour pharmacy. In theory, prescriptions are required for the usual controlled substances, but no one is terribly strict. Things like aspirin and birth control are available over the counter although they, like the prescription medicines, are kept behind the counter. In front of the counter are items like hairbrushes, combs, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and so on, which are available only in pharmacies. As in all shops, one should check the price on the item to make sure it coincides with price listed on the bill.
