Hindi in North India

Telling Time

There is a single time zone for all of India.

Western notions of punctuality are not adhered to. If one is invited to a home for dinner at 9:00, it is customary to arrive a little bit late. On the other hand, if one is meeting people at a public place such as a restaurant or theater, one should arrive on time. It is not unusual for events (theater, concerts, and so on) to begin late.
