Train Transportation

In Germany, the train is the preferred method of travel for long distance. There are no long-distance bus companies except those for organized group trips. German trains are known for being clean and safe. There are three major categories: local trains that stop frequently, IC (Inter-City) trains that run between major cities without stopping, and ICE (Inter-City Express) trains that travel at the fastest speed.

Trains have first and second class cars. The difference is wider seats, more leg room and better upholstery in first class cars. There are special smoking compartments, and inter-city trains have restaurant and snack-bar cars. Vendors selling drinks and candy usually come to each compartment.
