Emergencies

A sign with emergency numbers

The standard emergency number for the police or for a medical emergency is 110 and for a fire is 112. These numbers may occasionally vary in specific communities. These numbers are posted in telephone booths and inside of the cover of any phone book.

As much as Germany is considered a relatively safe country, caution should always be employed, particularly in train stations and other crowded public places.

German hospitals and emergency rooms have very high standard of efficiency and cleanliness. Most of them are public. Health care in Germany is state-subsidized and affordable for every working person. If travelers fall ill and must be treated, they must pay for the doctor’s visit and then be reimbursed by their insurance company.
