Public restrooms in Germany are located in train and bus stations, as well as highway rest stops. At rest stops, one may need coins. At a gas station, one usually needs to ask for a key. Fast food restaurants or department stores have accessible restrooms, which is not usually the case in smaller stores or boutiques. One should only use the restroom in a cafe after placing an order.
When there is an attendant, it is appropriate to leave a small tip.
