French in France

Banks and Money

A list of French credit cards that can be used to withdraw money from any ATM of a French bank

Banks are not open on Mondays but operate from Tuesday through Saturday noon. Bank hours are from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., although in big cities, banks do not normally close for lunch. ATM machines are easily found either in small kiosks, inside the mall, or in front of the bank.

Money can be changed at banks or exchange bureaus for a fee. There is no fee when one exchanges money at airports and train stations. France is a country where it is not necessary to carry enormous amounts of cash, since credit cards and traveler's checks are generally accepted everywhere.
